Sleep-away camp can be an intimidating transition for both parents and children. For many families, it’s the first time children are away from home. Camp gives children the opportunity to enhance their physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills. In turn, these skills help promote independence and self-confidence. The Anne Shore Sleep-Away Camp Program provides informational resources for parents, such as a Guide to Handling Homesickness, to aid in the transition.
Additionally, Anne Shore’s Camp Fair, hosted each fall, and Online Parent Seminar, hosted each winter, educate families about the various camp program options. At the Camp Fair and Online Parent Seminar, parents can have their questions answered directly by representatives from the camp providers or the American Camp Association, as well as Anne Shore Program staff. These events allow families to gain a better understanding of the unique summer experience that camp offers.
